G   According to 1 Samuel 17:49, David's stone struck Goliath so that it "sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth." The earliest texts specify, however, that the stone actually made direct contact with Goliath's crown, driving the metal plate right into the giant's brain-pan. No mention of the decapitated head is made after David presented it to Saul, but we know that the skull with its permanently-fused crown-plate must be around somewhere; someone would have seen that it was preserved. A few expeditions have sought it, but geopolitical conflict has foiled every one of them. Indiana Jones, where are you?
