V   Not volcanoes but coral atolls crown the South Seas. Thus, every volcano aspires to become an atoll despite the complexity of the transition process as the volcanic island sinks while the coral skeletons and the algae strain phototropically upward. Even if the atoll retains any memories from its previous existence, they have long since been filtered through the reflections of clouds in water, all their fury now muted, mere "experience recollected in tranquility."
